Harvey W. Chalfant founded Chalfant Sewing Fabricators,
Inc. on April 1, 1940. He made the sales, sewed the awnings and
installed them himself. His first place of business was at 11510 Madison
Avenue. During the 2nd World War, he made many top-secret items for our
government. In 1950, he saw the need to make dock seals, which is the
majority of our Sewing business today. He decided he did not want to be
associated with the “Blue Suede Shoe” type of people involved in metal
awnings. However, he now had all the machinery to work with metals, so
he formed the Chalfant Manufacturing Co. This new company custom
fabricated steel and aluminum per the customer’s blueprints. When the
Ford Motor Company was building their “new” plant in Brookpark, they
asked if Chalfant could make them a custom tray to hold their electrical
cables. We did. That was the beginning of the cabletray industry. In
1956, Thomas W. Chalfant came on board, and in 1958, became President.
Today, Jeff Chalfant presides as both the President and CEO of Chalfant
Sewing Fabricators, Inc.
