Chalfant Series 500 Rail Shelter protects areaways between rail docks, door and freight car openings against environment. Provides year-round protection for material handling operations at dock areas where rail cars are loaded and unloaded. Designed for either platform or non-platform docks. When extended, the unit is pressed snugly against the side of the rail car by arm and track assembly extended by spring torsion. When not in use the shelter is retracted snugly to the face of the building by easy-to-operate balanced pulley and rope assembly to allow for rail car passage. Rail shelters are available as: (a) 4-sided units which offer maximum protection of all 4 sides where no platforms exist. (b) 3-sided units for use where platforms exist. (c) Rolling rail shelters which give 3-sided protection where the platform extends out from the building too far for pratical use of other types of rail shelters.
